Singles Merit Sunday 24 May
The sun shone continuously on a glorious day of bowling. We had the biggest entry ever with 60 bowlers taking part. telepost was an ideal venue and the greens were superb. It was also very welcome to see the number of young bowlers taking part and also a field of high ranking bolwers. It was a good family day out.

The Ladies Merit Sunday 12 July 2009
Ladies Merit Winner Ann Parrish (POWBC) and runner Up Jan James (Pontesbury)
Unfortunately only six ladies competed for the Ladies Merit . However an enjoyable day was had by all. We played a round robin and after five games each playing each other Ann Parrish from POWBC had an aggregate of plus 21 followed closely by Jan James from Pontesbury with plus 19 and Wendy Jones from POWBC plus 18 just lost out after a magnificent come back in the final game against Jan which cost Jan the title. They all played well and it was really close at the end. I would like to thank Bill and Ursular Longmore from Hanwood for opening up and supplying delicious home cooked food. It was much appreciated and I am just sorry the turn out was so poor.

The Doubles Competition took place at Old Shrewsbury Club on 19 July. 16 pairs turned out on a day of mixed weather when it would change from brilliant sunshine to a sharp heavy downpour in seconds. However after a short break we were able to continue and the weather did not dampen the enthusiam of the bowlers. It was paricularly pleasing to see some of the junior bowlers taking part but it was also an emotional day as Dave (Itchy) Pritchard took part wih Derek(Deadly) Jones and reached the semi finals. This was a personal triumph for Itchy and we were all pleased to see him back winning on the green. There was also an emotional welcome for Tony and Graham Wall who were bowling for Chris on what would have been the eve of his 22nd birthday.
There was excellent bowling through the day and we had too excellent semi-finals. Chris Kelly and Kevin (Juggler) Jones played Dave Hyde and Richard Taylor. It seemed a forgone conclusion with Chris and Kevin 14-2 up when Dave and Rich started to fight back they came back to 19-8 and just when we thought it was all over they pulled it back to 19-12 and at 20-12 down scored another three before Chris and Kevin ran out at 21-15. The second semi was Tony and Graham against Derek and Itchy. It was a fairly close game to begin with and then Tony and Graham forged ahead to 20-8 up when Derek and Itchy came back to to 14 before Tony and Graham ran out 21-14.
The final was very close with both pairs level at eights, eleven and fifiteens before Chris and Kevin took a four which wound the game up at 21-15.
The end to a very enjoyable if emotional day. Tony and Graham, Chris would have been proud of you both.
