Well done all bowlers who took part in the County Interleague Competition yesterday. The Wem League won the trophy again. It has been a long time coming. Unfortunately in our round robin we only had three teams.
We played Market Drayton League first and won by 44 Chalks then had a wait while they played North Shropshire Ladies. We then played North Shropshire Ladies who we beat by 69 chalks, therefore with two wins we qualified for the semi final.
We had to travel to Donnington Wood to play the semi final and then had another long wait for the other qualifier from Coddon to join us. Mid Shropshire qualified and we played on Donnington No 1 green. We won the match by 39 Chalks.
This meant we had reached the final and made our way over to St Georges. Fortunately the other semi final at Coddon was played on two greens and we did not have to wait too long for Tanners Shropshire to join us for the final. Wem finished victors by 22 Chalks in a good hearted match with good natured banter around the green.
County President Alan Mayhew presented Adie Jennings the captain with the Interleague Trophy. The Shropshire Star Man of the Match trophy was awarded to Mark Shore by Malcolm Fletcher. Mark was also awarded the new Wem Man of the Match Salver dedicated to Chris Wall and presented by Tony Wall as his card confirmed we had won the match and he, like all the players had played constitently well all day. Thank you all of you and especially Adie Jennings for sterling captaincy and showing fairness and judgment in selecting the team and other bowlers who chose to step down to make sure everybody played two games. This showed great sportmanship and also helped Adie. We only lost four games out of 32 which made it quite difficult to choose when each team only comprises of eight players.
Dont forget Presentation Day on 3 Octoberat Wem Sports and Social Club when all Trophies will be presentated again.
